Jet-Dispensing, Jetting or pulsing means the application of dispensing media (adhesive, underfill, coating, etc.) by means of a dispensing jet. This makes it possible to transfer the dispensing material without substrate contact. The dispensing material is applied by a dispensing valve with the necessary energy for the process and formed into a jet or dots (Dynamic Dot Dispensing). It then reaches the substrate after a brief free-flying phase.
Modern Jet valves can achieve dispensing frequencies at single points of up to 1200 Hz in continuous operation. Dispensing volumes of up to 0.5 nl can be achieved with spot diameters of up to 0.2 mm [1]. This significantly reduces process times compared to conventional needle dispensing.
The non-contact adhesive application can also reduce accompanying process steps such as inspection of substrate heights or Z-axis movements, which has a positive influence on the process time. In addition, dispensing tasks can be realisedon sensitive components as there is no risk of a collision with a dispensing needle.
